Picasa Albums Downloader For Mac and Linux
Almost all social media websites offer the ability to host our pictures. These sites also have a photo album creation feature; using it, we can arrange our related photographs into different albums, for better organization. For the photographs’ uploader this is quite convenient and keeps the clutter minimum. But viewing these pictures album wise in a browser window is sometimes problematic for some internet users. I, myself, have faced problems while browsing friends’ photo albums on Facebook: sometimes a certain picture does not load up properly and at times, the browser hands.
To get around that problem, I downloaded and installed Fotobounce which downloads our and our friends’ Facebook photo albums on our computer and lets us view the pictures offline. Fotobounce solved my problem brilliantly.
But Facebook is not the only photo-uploading platform used by my contacts. The most used, in fact, is Picasa.
In Fotobounce, I was able to download albums from Facebook and Flickr, but not Picasa. That is why I started looking for a similar software for Picasa and found one quickly: Picasa Album Downloader.
The setup file size of this application was only 4MB (tiny in comparison to Fotobounce, which was 17MB to download). Installation was normal and I had the program up and running in not time.
The interface is simple enough: all we have to do is enter the username, album name, and the location to which the album will be downloaded. Picasa Album Downloader only downloads photo albums with the PUBLIC privacy setting.
While using the application, I felt that the user-interface could be improved; apart from that, PUBLIC Picasa albums were downloaded flawlessly.
If you are looking for an application to make browsing Picasa photos easier, then Picasa Album Downloader is the perfect solution. It has versions for Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems which can be found here.
I only wish that a developer would combine the power of Fotobounce and Picasa Album Downloader to give us an application that supports photo album downloading from many social media networks.
