at March 15, 2010

Due to last weekend’s severe storm, 849 Wilton customers of Connecticut Light and Power are still without electricity. It is being revealed that almost 12% of the utility’s customer of Connecticut Light and Power base in town. These people are facing big time trouble since Sunday morning.

Press release

Berlin, CT – March 14, 2010 – As of 9 p.m., Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) reports that 65,183 customers remain without power, down from a high of over 85,000 as a result of the Nor’easter storm that hit the region this weekend. The majority of these outages are primarily in the Stamford, Norwalk and Greenwich areas. As we are in the process of determining the full magnitude of storm damage due to the significant rain and damaging high winds, we are not providing exact restoration projections, but expect it may take several days in some areas. Updates can be found at the Storm Center link on www.cl-p.com.

Over 200 utility and tree crews are working around the clock to restore service to customers including crews from Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Ohio and Canada. More crews are expected to arrive on Monday. This will allow us to maintain safe schedules for the crews while working to repair service to our customers.

Storm Summary

Beginning late Saturday evening, this storm delivered significant rainfall and damaging wind gusts in some areas. The heavy rain made the soil very soft and the high winds (gusts reported at over 60 miles per hour) caused many trees to uproot, topple over and crush whatever was in their path. The resulting damage included hundreds of broken poles, downed wires and broken electrical equipment. The rebuild will be extensive in the heavily damaged areas.

Safety First

We are in the process of supporting state and municipal workers efforts to safely re-open roads. We have responded to over 280 emergency 911 calls since the storm began.

How To Manage Tabs And Improve Your Browsing Experience In Chrome

Posted by Umar Anjum
at March 13, 2010

I use Chrome as my default internet browser for its speedy responsiveness and fast webpage loading times. Undoubtedly the browser has continued to be a major player in the “browser wars” and continues to improve with each update. Only recently a feature was added to Chrome that recognizes the language of a webpage and if it is different from the default language set by the user, a suggestion is presented to translate that particular webpage. Facilitating their users in such ways is why Google has so many loyal fans, including me.

But the auto-translate idea was first presented by a third-party extension for Chrome. Third-party developers have long been making their valuable contributions to internet browsers in the forms of plug-ins, add-ons, and extensions. Today we explore a similar extension that improves our overall Chrome experience and hopefully this feature will be a native one in Chrome’s next update.

The extension we are referring to is TooManyTabs.

When we have too many browser tabs open in any browser (for instance more than 15), we can hardly see their favicons, much less the tab titles. Some browsers make the tabs scrollable which hides some tabs and makes finding the required webpage even more difficult.
