How To Preview Browser Tabs in Firefox and Chrome
Browser tabs enable us to view many webpages in a single internet browser window. We no longer have a pileup of browser entries into your system taskbar and things stay organized. However as the number of tabs keep increasing, it reaches a level where they exceed the tabs toolbar of our browser. Consequently our browser squeezes each tab and makes them scrollable. This built-in browser feature hides some tabs and makes reading the title of other tabs very difficult. Therefore if we have an open tab we want displayed, we usually have to browse through a few other tabs before we reach our target.
Today’s leading internet browsers are Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. Both these browsers support add-ons which build upon their present functionality and enhance the user’s experience. Today we are going to explore two different add-ons which solve this tab issue for each browser.
First, we will be covering Firefox’s extension:
TabPreview in Firefox.
TabPreview lets us easily check the contents of a tab on a mouseover action. If we have many tabs open and want to preview what some other tabs contains without actually opening it, we simply hover our mouse pointer over the tab and a thumbnail of that webpage will be shown.

TabPreview therefore, presents us with a method to check the contents of a tab without having to leave our current open tab.
This add-on does not quite get the job done and leaves a lot more to be desired. Moreover the extension is not compatible with the latest Firefox stable release 3.6. TabPreview really needs to work on its compatibility with Firefox 3.6. Also it needs to improve its functionality and think out of the box for ways to facilitate the user.
Now, let us explore Chrome’s extension:
The similarity between Chrome’s and Firefox’s add-on ends at their name. Chrome’s extension offers a much better way to find the tab we are looking for. With the extension installed, you will notice its icon in the address bar. When you have a lot of tabs open in your Chrome browser, simply click on this icon and a view like this will be shown:

Options available via buttons placed in the top-right and bottom-left enable us to change the view to many alternatives. These views ultimately make it a lot easier to find our desired tab than if we start opening each tab individually.
TabsPreview for Chrome is definitely a success and a must-have for all Chrome users.
