How to Zip and Unzip Files Online
Has an amateur computer user friend asked you to resend the files you emailed in their original form, and not the archived format? Or have you ever had to unzip an archive but were unable to do so because the system you were on did not have the appropriate software and did not give you administrative privileges to install one yourself? Either way, if you are unfamiliar with archives or you cannot install unzipping software, ezyZip is a free online tool you can benefit from.
While unzipping files, the first step is to click on the ‘Select ZIP file.’ Subsequently the desired folder, where the user wants to extract the files from the archive, should be selected by clicking on the ‘Select Destination Directory’ button.
The final action is to click the ‘UNZIP IT!’ button, and there you go! Check your selected folder; you will find that it now contains all the contents of the archive.
A great feature of ezyZip is that it operates as a Java applet inside the user’s browser hence it does not require the archive to be uploaded to the server.
Along with the feature of unzipping files, ezyZIP can also creative ZIP archives just as easily.
To do that, the ZIP tab should be selected.
The first step in the zipping process is to name the archive soon to be created, and choose the location where it is to be saved. This is done by clicking on the ‘Select Archive File’ button. From here onwards, the applet buttons are self-explanatory: you add the files to be compressed by clicking on the ‘Add Files’ button and in case you want to remove them, you click on the ‘Remove Files’ buttons. When all your files are selected, click on the ‘ZIP EM!’ button and you will have created your very own ZIP archive.
At the moment the archive format ezyZIP supports is *.zip. The creators of ezyZIP could make their service a lot better if the user could select from different archiving formats (7ZIP, RAR, etc.). However, as it is, the tool is still ideal for people who do not have a clue about archives yet need to work with them.
