Download and Convert Online Videos on Linux
Lets face it, it’ll be some time before Linux can come on the same term of support as Windows – but make no mistake, it IS getting there!
With Windows you’ll literally drown with the amount of media ripper apps that are availabale out there. Some will rip/convert audio/video data directly from your hard disk, others will rip/convert directly from the web, and some will boast of doing both!
Linux of course, can’t claim the same amount of software support however what it lacks in quantity it definitely makes up for in quality. As far as I know Linux had to rely on media ripping websites and browser based JavaScript file, until now!
Utube ripper is an exclusive (so far) app for Linux that not only downloads videos off of popular media sites like Youtube and Google Video but it also gives you a few options to convert them into a separate format (for example the super useful `Rip audio only’ if checked, will only rip and download the audio data into an MP3 file. Not only does this speed up downloads but I’ve noticed that sound quality tends to improve a little as well!)
Like most Linux Apps utube aims to do what it says while doing it efficiently and quickly, the software itself is a tiny download and there are many different source packages available to suit your particular Linux configuration.
