Rapidshare Leaks User Identity
Recently one of the users on Rapidshare has been raided by the Police. It’s been said that Rapidshare has handed over all the personal information of alleged copyright infringers to several major record labels.
This may not sound very weird but Metallica’s latest album “Death Magnetic” was uploaded on RapidShare one day prior to its official release date in 2008. The police raided the house of an uploader after a few weeks. So this means that Rapidshare may leak your personal information out to record companies and you can get in a whole lot of trouble.
Torrentfreak explains that it was pretty unclear in the beginning how the identity of the uploader was revealed, but today German news outlet Gulli said it had found out that this was likely to be accomplished by creative use of paragraph 101 of German copyright law. It turns out that several record labels are using this to take legal action against those who share music on Rapidshare.
