BBC iPlayer with New Features

The BBC’s iPlayer is all set to offer improved picture quality, high definition streams and downloads of some programmes. It might be the first time many of us will view HD television with Doctor Who, Kerwhizz, and Dragon’s Den all slated for HD release.
The iPlayer was officially launched on Christmas Day 2007 and it is considered to be a successful and to prove it there are more than 387 million requests to stream or download since it went live.
The updated iPlayer also comes with a diagnostic tool that examines a users internet connection and automatically switches the streaming options to give the best quality image. In addition to that the player will also allow users to customize the size of their viewing window and the company claims it to be much more better than the previous version.

“The new adaptive bitrate technology and speed diagnostics page help optimise the viewing experience, while the re-sizable window gives users flexibility to switch between different quality streams, hopefully leading to a more satisfying experience overall,” said Mr Rose.
Other new features include
- Internet speed diagnostics page
- Full release of the new BBC iPlayer desktop
- A cross-platform manager
- Windows, Mac and Linux users can download BBC programmes.
There are plans to roll out the HD streams to devices such as the Virgin Set Top Box and PlayStation 3, but no date has yet been set.
