I remember the time when I first ordered my Linux CD online. Recently we have installed it on my friends computer and I must say it is the second best thing after Windows but when it comes to third party software like image editors or other system applications it may not have that many options but its still worth it. You can definitely find something useful to get the job done. I’ve compiled a list of some of the most useful Audio applications you can download totally free of charge for Linux.

Lets start with our list now. On the top of my head I have
1. Audacity
Audacity is a free, easy-to-use audio editor and recorder for Windows, Mac OS X, GNU/Linux and other operating systems. You can use Audacity to Record live audio, Convert tapes and records into digital recordings or CDs, Edit Ogg Vorbis, MP3, WAV or AIFF sound files, Cut, copy, splice or mix sounds together, Change the speed or pitch of a recording and do a lot more.

2. JokoSher
A simple and powerful multi-track studio, Jokosher provides a complete application for recording, editing, mixing and exporting audio, and has been specifically designed with usability in mind.

3. Grip
Grip is a cd-player and cd-ripper for the Gnome desktop. It has the ripping capabilities of cdparanoia builtin, but can also use external rippers such as cdda2wav. It also provides an automated frontend for MP3 and other audio format encoders, letting you take a disc and transform it easily straight into MP3s. Internet disc lookups are supported for retrieving track information from disc database servers.Grip works with DigitalDJ to provide a unified “computerized” version of your music collection.

Ardour is an exellent Linux Application that gives you the power to record, edit and mix multiple audio tracks. You can even produce your own CDs using this application.

It’s has the ability of doing multichannel recording, non-destructive editing with unlimited undo/redo, full automation support, a powerful mixer, unlimited tracks/busses/plugins, timecode synchronization, and hardware control from surfaces.
SoundKonverter is a frontend to various audio converters that supports reading and writing tags for many formats, so the tags are preserved when converting files. It comes with an Amarok script that allows you to easily transcode files when transfering to your media device. And it is available in English, German, French, Spanish, Russian, Polish and Brazilian Portuguese.
