iTunes 8.1 Reviews
Now that iTunes 8.1 is out it’s time we start collecting reviews and discover what people think about it. The information I’m going to write down here is being collected from all over the internet. Been using 8.1 for an hour now and I am safe to say, it’s definitely snappier. Searching takes less time (though it still stutters a bit going through 40GB) but it’s definitely a good improvement. I’ve never had problems scrolling so no problems there once again, but I think the lag between scrolling through the song list really fast is gone.

Loving it. It was responsive before for me, but heaps more so now. I find video playback more efficient as well.

not liking it at all, it’s actually slower and now I’m starting to get problems with it and it’s taken a noticeable performance hit. I might* downgrade back to 8.0 to get things working well again

Import as iTunes Plus really didn’t do anything but add “iTunes Plus” to the drop down for import options. This sets it at 256K AAC VBR, which could always be done manually before. I think they did it because they’re promoting the iTunes Plus thing and wanted an option in iTunes to match.

Substantially faster here too. No more hiccups, or slowdowns at all. Whatever they did, it worked big time for me.

My startup time went from 15sec to 4sec, 180GB/24Ksong library. Nice. I still don’t get Party Shuffle/DJ, but whatever.

Supposedly a new feature is the ability to rip CDs in “iTunes Plus” format of 256-kbps AAC. You couldn’t do this before? Too bad they didn’t fix the poor job of managing the library restoration process.

They still did not fix 2 year old bug, when Synchronization with Outlook crash all the time (using iPhone 3G). What’s the use of the software or the iPhone – when I can not have my contacts and calendar synchronized…Apple are useless devs…
