Adium is one of the most popular 100% free and open source instant messenger for Mac OS X. It’s based on the Libpurple protocol library and allows you to connect to any number of messaging accounts on any combination of supported messaging services and then chat with other people using those services.
It currently supports Msn Messenger, AOL, Jabber, Google Talk, Yahoo!, Bonjour, MySpace IM, and more.
Noticeable features of Adium include OTR Encryption, Tabbed Messaging, File Transfer, Webkit Message Display and Combined Contacts. You can also install AdiumXtras to make it more fun. An Xtra is a message display style, emoticon set, dock icon pack, sound pack, third party plugin, or other add-in resource for Adium. Xtras can be downloaded from the AdiumXtras official website.
