I am shocked that http://www.BBC.com was not on this list. BBC has one of the best looking sites I have ever seen in this category.

AJAX is not slow… IE is painfully slow with AJAX. Use Firefox (or Safari, even faster), and the problem is fixed. Honestly, check the benchmarks — IE is so painfully slow with javascript (the heart of AJAX) compared to the others that it’s just not a fair fight.

What about vidshome.com ??

Comment by O3CAndrew on December 2, 2008 @ 12:09 am

Great article! AJAX is indeed an extremely powerful tool to utilize these days. Unfortunately we are still in an era where end-users still disable JavaScript, rendering AJAX useless. So if you are sure your website will not be impacted by the use of AJAX then by all means, let er’ rip! :D

I guess the perfect world would consist of safe code and the satisfaction knowing we can use AJAX with no negative effects. Man… :(

@MyWorld – The internet is not slow, it may be your connection and/or computer. AJAX requires decent client-side hardware to efficiently execute. Thus poor hardware will result is poor application performance, oh and what is that? Sounds like a web application is acting like a desktop application.

Can I recommend http://www.myworldtoday.co.cc as your startpage.

It’s a clean ajaxed news startup page showing you bare trimmings of World News from multiple news sites, that gives you the headlines as you request it. You can have as much info or as little as you want. It’s meant to be a stripped down – bare version so that it loads up as quick as possible.

Those are really cool! I like Ajax-based websites. However, the only drawback is that it is quite bandwidth-hungry. So, ensure you have the bandwidth to support; otherwise it can easily bring down the site.

I think Symbaloo (http://www.symbaloo.com) should also fit in this list. What do you think?
