How to Unlock and Jailbreak iPhone 2.2 Firmware
The new Apple update for iPhone users was released a few days back with new and improved features such as Google Street View, Podcasts from iTunes and of course decrease in call setup failures and dropped calls.
For people who are looking to unlock and jailbreak the new firmware can follow the steps my friend Saad came up with. Also, keep in mind that this method will only work for iPhone 2G
1. First of all you need to download the Pwned iPhone 2.2 Firmware for iPhone 2G created using Pwnage tool using the links below
2. Extract the parts such that you get a file named iPhone1,1_2.2_5G77_Custom_Restore.ipsw (245MB).
3. Connect your iPhone to your PC via USB cable and open iTunes 8 (Cancel if its asks you to update your iPhone to the latest firmware).
4. Make a backup of all the contacts, music, videos and other media on your iPhone.
5. Hold shift and click Restore and locate the Pwned iPhone 2.2 Firmware.
Wait till its all done and enjoy an unlocked and jailbroken iPhone 2G on Firmware 2.2. You can download the iPhone 2.2 for 2G using the links below
