Amazon Adds 18,000 Domains Titles eBooks to Kindle Store
Perhaps as a promotional tactic for Kindle, Amazon has recently been adding public domain titles at an amazingly rapid rate. Right now, there are over eighteen thousand titles available in the eBook store and since most of the acquired domains were public, they are not protected by copyright laws anymore.
One does wonder what Amazon stands to gain from this maneuver, apart from the obvious belated promotional campaign for the Kindle. One answer could be that once the Kindle properly takes off and having your eBook read out to you becomes the next big thing, Amazon will work towards acquiring newer titles which they would sell to a wide audience.
Before this stunt, the number of actual, complete eBooks on the Kindle Store had waned to about 40. Now there are more than eighteen thousand of them!
The books right now are free for US customers only. For UK customer, for instance, the apparent cost will be USD 2.30 per eBook.
But do not be disappointed if you are an international kindle user; perhaps when they are done at home, Amazon will wake up to the need of promoting Kindle to foreign land, and come up with a similar scheme.
